Arrangement for two classical guitars - Mihikatha Nalawala

Teaching guitar is very enjoyable and inspiring activity. Now I have few students who are very talented and enthusiastic. When I started to play guitar in early 90's the related literature was very rare. But now you can find ample of scores, methods and studies for classical guitar in the web and most of them are freely downloadable. When it come to local (Sri Lankan) song arrangements are very rare. Hence I started to arrange by myself. Love to receive feed back to improve them further. I selected maestro Sunil Shantha's  -  Mihikatha Nalawala  - Midi Mihikatha+Nalawala+-+%E0%B6%B8%E0%B7%92%E0%B7%84%E0%B7%92%E0%B6%9A%E0%B6%AD+%E0%B6%B1%E0%B6%BD%E0%B7%80%E0%B7%8F%E0%B6%BD%E0%B7%8F+Teacher+from+" by Theja Buddhika Rodrigo

The Best Stress Buster! Music

Image
Stress & Music There is no doubt that all of us undergo a great amount of stress during this period of reading for the MBA. There is no denying the fact that we must balance our professional and private lives in such a way that we get the best out of both worlds. The crucial triangle - family, job and the MBA brings about a considerable amount of negative stress. Even though positive stress is not a bad thing, negative stress is not good either. The positive stress, also called eu-stress is a reaction we have whenever we are faced with a demand which we can handle. It is a spark that can push your body to its limits in order to achieve a certain goal.  People believe that, music is a ‘universal language’. Anthony Storrs, in his excellent book, ‘Music and the Mind’ stresses that in all societies, the primary function of music is collective and communal - to bring and bind people together. People sing together, dance together, in every culture, and one can imagine ...

Lost plain tea The stage drama “Colombo Colombo” was presented yesterday 31 st January 2012 at the John de Silva Theater as the finale of National Drama festival 2011. I joined with the team at least for the curtain call.  When I entered from the gates towards to the theater, I heard the 1-5th harmonies sung by the actors with slight strumming guitars. I didn’t go inside because it was the last act and last few minutes of the show. I met few good old friends and had a friendly chat in front of the theater. What we missed was a plain-tea (Hot tea stain added sugar) with a smoke. The small cafeteria has been vanished which was adjoining to the Jon de Silva. A new great theater has arisen next to the wall, like a great pyramid of Giza.  It’s good to have large international level theaters, especially for the development of the performing arts of a country. The question is will it happen?? My personal belief is the true benefit of this kind of places will goes to ...

My friend Iqbal and I were able to organize and conduct the 2nd Guitar Festival of Sri Lanka on 21st January 2012. It was a great historical and fantastic event with a group of guitarists. Their various styles added brilliant color and value to the event. The Students of University of Performing Arts started the event with four guitars. Iqbal and Benedict performed Cuban guitar style Trova. Rohan de Silva and Prasad Silva played beautiful and calm Hawaiian melodies. Priyan Sandakelum and I played two flamenco style sessions with "Nim Him Sewwa Ma Sasare" - Sri Lankan song sung by Pandith Amaradeva. Andrew Abesekera of Stigmata played a powerful solo to a backing track and stunned the audience. Then came Mr.Amaranath Ranatunga with his amazing fingers and performed a flamenco session composed by him. Upla Madhushanka showed the audience what bass guitar can do, accompanied by guitar legend Antony Surendra.. He is the best Sri Lankan electric bass guitar player I have ever s...
